Donations have been rec'd from J&B Feed, HCR Manor Care, Yark Automotive and Paschal Bihn Excavating. An air conditioner has been donated for the office trailer. No patterns were turned in. T-shirt orders must be in by June 11. Memorial Saddle Award applications are due at the June SHAC meeting. Horse Share apps were due tonite - 1 was turned in. Groom & Clean entries are due May 23 as well as wrist band orders and SHAC dues. Groom & Clean contest will be June 1 at H&H Stables. Fulton Co. PAS show is NOT double judged. It is 2 day - Contesting on June 21, Performance on June 22. April 8, 2019
Al's Report: HHYEC clean-up happened. OHC chapters from Fulton, Defiance and Sandusky showed up and cleared both sides of the driveway and hauled away the brush. The website is 2 yrs out of date but is being worked on. The schedule book is in the works. Mary is in charge of the Circuit shows and needs help. Fair: Judges are confirmed. The parade form is on our website. Entries are due May 23. Fairboard office hrs. are Weds., Thurs., Fri. 9-2. Horse Share applications are due 5/13. Work days: Mon - RW; Tues.- AWT; Weds. - SS/ SCC 53-63, Broncos PM; Thurs. - Broncos 81-92, AWT Showmanship Sweepstakes/Versatility; Fri AWT/SS/SCC; Sat - Broncos/SCC/Sr kids Skillathon is Tues. 5/7 and Thurs. 5/16, 6-9 pm. 4-H clubroom. Al's Report: HHYEC Circuit dates are 5/12, 6/2, 6/30, 7/28, 8/25, rain date 9/2. There will be no clinic this year. Help is needed at the HHYEC Circuit shows. Fair: There will be a firefighter challenge onTues. Judges have been hired for Mon., Tues., Weds., Sat. Flo made a notebook of dressage patterns, all divisions and rules. Jr Fair parade will be Mon. at 3:30. Entries due May 23 in Fairboard office. All forms are available on the website. Mini Horse project book should be available soon (end of March). Super Saturday has been rescheduled. Rosters are needed for Skillathon and Testing. February 18, 2019

Ribbons: no report Sponsorships: $350 rec'd from Crogans Bank State Horse Advisor Update Jan 26: Powerpoint should be made available on the website Livestock QA is May 23, 10 am in Monclova. Skillathon: May 7 and 16, 6-9 pm. Must be registered by 8 pm. Stations: bits, feed/hay, BCS, wrapping leg, parasites and dewormers, markings, shoes, tack, saddle parts,parts of horse,hair - braiding, motto/pledge/colors, colors of horses Youth Leadership club: Elliot is starting a club for presidents/youth leaders Super Saturday Mar 2 8:30-noon is a 4-H informational event. From Advisors' Training on 1/16 Elliot is looking for camp counselors. Youth do not need to be in 4-H. Cost is ~$150-160. Camp is open to anyone, a youth does not need to be in 4-H. Cost is ~$200 for 5 days at Camp Palmer July 27-31st. Scholarships are available - contact Elliot. Officer Training will be Feb. 13, 6-8 pm, First Baptist Church on Pilliod. Enrollment will be on-line this year. A demo was given. Lucas Co. 4-H is on Facebook and YouTube. Fair news: The Fair Parade will be Monday at 3:30 followed by Opening Ceremonies. The Fair opens on Monday which is a free day. Showman of Showmen will be Thursday night. Wed. and Sat.will see quarter midget racers next to the horse arena starting at 3. Rodeo on Friday. The Do You Know? page on the website has 14 questions. Members are able to answer questions from the Rule Book to receive points toward their project book test. Al's report: Scholarship applications were passed out. The new board at HHYEC will be striving for better communication./ Al is the Chairman. The Board will be handling the Circuit shows. Dates are 3/12, 6/2, 6/30 (scholarship winner announced),7/28, 8/25 with 9/22 a make-up day if needed. Rental fees for grounds are $75 for youth groups, $125 non-youth. There are 2 new clubs with horse projects: Silver Spurs (advisor Kim Drake) and Sylvania Clover Crew (advisor Melissa). Findlay Tack Swap is Feb, 17. Expenses for 2018 Fair included $1300 for judges and $1569.25 for ribbons. State Groom and Clean is 9/21. Our contest will be 6/1 at H&H stables. Horses need to be there at 9 am. Flo revised the sponsor letter. Pizza pick-up will be Wed. 2/27 at the Fairboard office at 5 pm. Money and orders need to be turned in at the Feb. SHAC meeting. Fair dates are 7/9-7/14. Horses arrive Sunday 7/7, start showing Monday 7/8. The State Jr Fair Horse Show is 7/15-7/19, before the State Fair opens. Skillathon dates: Tuesday 5/7 and Thurs. 5/16, 5-9 pm. Must be registered by 8. Lucas Co. Advisor Training is Weds. Jan 15, 6-8. pm. There is a new project book on miniature horses altho it is not available yet. December meeting cancelled.

Al's Report (called in): There were 35-40 riders at the Rideathon. Nominations for Board members so far: Chairperson - Al, Vice Chair - Cody Taft, Sec - Dara Maier, Treas - Charlie Taft. Circuit awards will be Oct 14, 11am, HHYEC. Next meeting Nov 7, 7pm, Swanton Library. Kathy's Report: Answers for "Do You Know" have been removed, starting again for 2019. Clubs are encouraged to utilize this resource to educate members on the rule book. An Equine Basic Health and Emergency First Aid classby Equi-Aid Ohio is being hosted by Fulton Co. OHC and H&H Stables on Oct. 27. There will be 8 hrs of classroom and hands-on instruction and participants will be certified at the completion of the class. Cost is $149 per person. See FCOHC website for information and contacts. A new club is forming in Sylvania with 2 horse members. Welcome to Melissa Weise, advisor who was in attendance. The revised Fair schedule was reviewed. Painted Pony class will be kept. Trying to find a different venue for Groom and Clean. Clubs' input is requested. For G&C, you must have fly spray in your grooming kit for maximum credit. Pizza Sale: we will sell in Feb, deliver in Mar. Skillathon: It was discussed to have an earlier Skillathon, i.e. Feb or Mar. Suggestions include hands-on activities, no tests. Sr Fairboard is hosting an Open Forum to get input about Fair. It will be before the Sr. Fairboard meeting in the 4H Club Room on Tuesday Oct. 16 at 7pm. September 17, 2018
Al's Report: The next HHYEC board meeting is Oct. 3 at Charlie's at 7pm. Officer nominations will be made with voting in November. The board will be running the Pleasure Circuit in 2019. There will be a new food service next year. Kathy's report: Many of our members seem to be unfamiliar with the Uniform Rules for 4-H Horse Shows and many rule infractions were observed at Fair. All members should have a rule book. The clubs are encouraged to use the "Do You Know?" page on the website to explore the rules. The current questions and answers will be cleared soon and new questions posted for the coming year. Each correct answer submitted earns a point on the project book test score. Rosters with past test and book scores was distributed. It is acceptable that an individual who achieves the minimum passing score of 72 repeat the project book especially if they needed to retest to pass. Fair recap: Some days were too stressed and busy. Suggestions include add Monday back into the schedule, rearrange some classes, remove Groom & Clean from Fair schedule, run classes Thurs. night. A suggestion was made to have previous winners award traveling trophies. 4-H Hockey Night is Sunday Feb 17. Walleye tickets for this event are $15. Club audits for Elliot need to be done and turned in. Next meeting will be Tuesday Oct 9 at 7:30 at the Fairboard office. June 12, 2018

It is also on the website (Fair 2018 page). HHYEC is having a Speed Series. Dates: 7/8, 7/29, 8/25, 9/16. Exhibition at 9am, show at 12. Proceeds go to HHYEC. Broncos speed show is at HHYEC on 8/18. Fulton Co. OHC will be having a Cowboy Christmas Tack Swap and Shopping event at WB on 12/2. May 14 meeting cancelled.

Projected cost for judges for Fair is $2100. Al Staler reports that the Harry Hughes clean-up date is Sunday April 15, rain date Weds. April 18. Bring tools - rakes, etc. Defiance Co. OHC is going to paint the outhouse. Project book lists are needed for testing. Only 1 member has attempted the "Do You Know" questions posted for points on their test. Stirrup A Bit has folded. Pizza pickup will be March 21, 4:30 pm. There is a new activity page on the website. It's called "Do You Know" under Riders Resources. Each week a question will be posted from the 2018 Uniform Rules book. Members should submit their answers to Kathy Brown at [email protected] or 419.283.5383 text or voicemail. Each correct answer will add 1 point to the project book test score. Each question will be open for 1 week, then the answer will be posted. January 8, 2018
Fair show schedule was reviewed and revisions are in progress. A Ranch Riding class is being added. A Horse Photo contest was discussed to be judged alongside the Horseless Horse Projects. A Sponsor letter is being created and distributed to all advisors help with fund raising to defray costs of ribbons, judges and other expenses. State Horse Advisor update will be Jan 15 in Columbus. State Advisors Conference will be March 10 in Columbus. Pizza fundraiser will be Feb/March. Dr. Dan Pontius will be doing our Fair vet check and Horseless Horse judging. Dr. Carstensen has retired. We will contact a local business for ribbons - Sylvan Studios, Tentative Skillathon dates - Tuesday 5/8 and Thursday 5/17, 6-9 pm. |
